What makes a recurve bow so special?

The Scythians possessed such bows as early as 700 BC. Fragments of an Avar recurve bow from the 6th century AD have been found in Bavaria. Mongols and Turks developed the short recurve composite bow into a high-performance weapon. The Mongols deployed this weapon with previously unimagined perfection and struck fear into the European knighthood. The re-curved bow transfers a greater percentage of energy to the arrow due to the physical double-lever effect. It also features significantly more dynamic shooting behavior. The bow offers greater shooting comfort and, thanks to its dual function, can be shorter in total length and therefore more powerful. In addition, the recurve bow stores more energy in its limbs due to this function.

Our products: From traditional hunting recurves to take-down recurve bows

Sometimes you feel it the moment you pick up the bow that it simply belongs to you. Take, for example, the Bodnik Bows Redman. This 62-inch traditional recurve hunting bow (30 to 60 lbs) made of Cocobolo and bamboo is built for archers who want the maximum. Don't expect half-measures – with the right setup, its performance delivers arrow speeds well over 210 fps. A classic that always keeps its promises. Do you want to keep the traditional feel while outsmarting physics? Then choose the Redman Carbon. With a bow length of 62″, it utilizes state-of-the-art carbon technology in its limbs. Furthermore, the bow stores significantly more energy in its limbs during the draw and provides more energy for your shot while bow hunting. What does that mean for you? Noticeably higher arrow speed, excellent vibration dampening, and thus incomparable shot precision. We offer this bow primarily in specialized versions for right- or left-handed archers. The optional double-shelf design, on the other hand, is a targeted solution for professional providers working in rentals, courses, or therapy, to ensure maximum flexibility in use. If, however, you are looking for an unbeatable price-performance ratio, our Bandit Take Down recurve bowis your ideal partner. It delivers the performance of a high-end bow and can be shot with a high-performance string. It also impresses with its traditional design using fine woods and offers a level of performance and aesthetics rarely found in this class. And because it should adapt to you, you can even choose to shoot it off the shelf or with an arrow rest. These and many more recurve bows are waiting to be discovered. Browse our online shop now!

Questions & Answers

Which weights are recommended for beginners?

For a successful start in traditional archery, we generally recommend a starting draw weight between 30 and 40 lbs on the fingers for men and between 20 and 30 lbs for women. It is important that you can draw the bow comfortably and without great effort in order to develop a clean shooting technique.

For which disciplines is the recurve bow suitable?

The recurve bow is the most versatile bow of all. It is ideal for archery sports, recreational use, and bow hunting, as its design offers you a high level of shooting comfort and excellent accuracy. At the same time, it is currently the only bow permitted at the Olympic Games.

What is a take-down recurve bow?

A take-down bow, like our Archer’s Empire Bandit, can be disassembled into three parts – the riser and the two limbs. The big advantage for you is maximum flexibility. You can transport it effortlessly in a backpack, store it compactly, and later easily adjust the draw weight as your strength increases by simply swapping out the limbs.
